Sony Announces Xperia 1 II for Spring 2020 Release
No, it’s not called the “Sony Xperia One Two”. Sony is borrowing nomenclature from their mirrorless camera line and has dubbed their newest smartphone offering the “Sony Xperia One Mark 2”.
Without a doubt, this qualifies as a flagship smartphone. Check out the specs below:
- Snapdragon 865 Chip
- 5G Capable (mid-band 5G)
- 6.5-inch, 3840×1644 OLED display
- 8GB of RAM
- 256GB of storage
- 4000mAh battery.
- IP68 Rating
- MicroSD slot
- Wireless charging
- Headphone Jack (!)
- Camera Shutter Button
- Fingerprint Reader
- 4 Cameras (12 MP main camera, 3x 12MP telephoto, 12MP wide angle, and a Time of Flight camera for 3D sensing)
There’s currently no indication of what the refresh rate will be, but based off of Sony’s product page, the Xperia 1 II will have a focus on photography. This appears to be a much welcome first step in Sony tying its Xperia line with the rest of its product lines, but it may be too little too late.
Sony’s smartphone division currently hovers around 0% of market share, with some companies selling more in a single day than Sony does in one quarter.
Despite this fact, Sony will still be charging a premium for their newest offering: About $1300 USD.
