Facebook has recently begun offering to pay users for short voice samples in an effort to improve their voice recognition tools. Users will be able to participate by saying “Hey Portal, call…” followed by the first names of friends on Facebook 10 times. Performing this 10 times will net you a solid $5 that will be sent to you via PayPal.

To participate in the program, you’ll need to take part in their Viewpoints program.

The decision to begin paying users for their voice data comes at a time when big tech companies have come under scrutiny due to security issues with their devices always listening to consumers. Facebook has repeatedly denied that it is using voice recordings specifically to spy on users, and the recent decision to pay users for their data seems to support this.
